The Ambassador Theatre Group collaborated with Widgit Software to create symbol resources to support pantomime audiences.

Symbol stories are a great way to create accessible learning materials. Children may find these symbols useful to prepare for their visit to the pantomime. Customers can use the Going to the Pantomime resource to anticipate the experience of visiting a theatre at Christmas, and if you are going to see Snow White, Cinderella, Aladdin, Jack and the Beanstalk, or Peter Pan, you can use the plot synopsis to help familiarise children with the story. 

Each resource comes with flashcards which help with identifying the characters and objects found in the production and during a visit to the theatre. 

All of the symbol resources are free and can be downloaded below. 

 

Introduction to Pantomime

This resource explains in detail what you will encounter on your trip to the pantomime. Using symbols and text, it outlines what you will see in the theatre building, what will happen, and who you will meet. It also explains what the atmosphere is likely to be like at a pantomime, and describes what the production will be like, without going into detail about the characters or the story. Within these resources there is some information about audience reactions at a pantomime and how you can interact with the performers.

Snow White

This resource tells the story of the pantomime of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, using symbols and text. It introduces the characters, using a symbol to represent each of them, and outlines the story of what happens to Snow White, the Queen, the Prince, and the others.
